Dr Angela Tait

Dr Angela Tait completed her PhD June 2022.

Angela Tait’s research project is titled:

Things which go round: An investigation of the relationship between a creative practice and domesticity

Angela Tait is a ceramic artist and lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Salford. She works from her home studio on the edge of the Pennine Hills in Lancashire.

Angela is interested in the overlap between her creative practice and her domestic obligations. She investigates her own temporal experience of this relationship using the vessel as a universally understood object. One which is equally at home on the kitchen counter or in the boardroom.

The pandemic has affected the research by accelerating and highlighting the working-from-home culture. During lockdown #1 Angela made the COVID clay diary. She made a variation of ceramic vessel every day for 90 days reflecting upon the personal, social and political events of that day. The daily making process provided a measure of the rhythmic passage of time, whilst the cups became significant in a new way as the world adapted to a different kind of existence.
